Fish Play
Last night I decided to make the most complicated thing in the world for me; tilapia, asparagus and corn. You may think that is not a complicated thing to make, but for someone that has never made fresh fish or used a steamer before.....it was a pain. It ended up being really good though! So I was very proud of my self in the end. I broiled the talpia for 8-10 minutes. The asparagus I steamed for about 10 minutes; any longer and i think they would have gone limp. The born I boiled for about 20 minutes. I couldn't find my camera or else I would have taken a picture.
I also found another recipe on Martha Stewart's page and I thought it would be something fun to try and maybe step up my game when it comes to cooking fresh fish. If you decide to try it, take a picture and post it or tell me about! I would love to hear from every one.

Top 10 Foods for Healthy Hair
Seeing as how I go to Cosmetology School I thought it would be fun to
mix it up a bit and show you some tips on food that would keep your hair
beautiful and healthy <3
Top 10 Foods for
Healthy Hair
Healthy Hair Food
No. 1: Salmon
When it comes to foods that pack a beauty punch, it's hard
to beat salmon. Loaded with omega-3 fatty acids, this high-quality protein
source is also filled with vitamin B-12 and iron.
"Essential omega-3 fatty acids are needed to support
scalp health," says Andrea Giancoli, MPH, RD, a dietitian in Los Angeles
and a spokeswoman for the American Dietetic Association. "A deficiency can
result in a dry scalp and thus hair, giving it a dull look."
Vegetarian? Include one
or two tablespoons of ground flaxseed in your daily diet for some plant-based
omega-3 fats.
Healthy
Hair Food No. 2: Dark Green Vegetables
Popeye the Sailor Man didn't eat all that spinach for
healthy hair, but he could have. Spinach, like broccoli and Swiss chard, is an
excellent source of vitamins A and C, which your body needs to produce sebum.
The oily substance, secreted by your hair follicles, is the body's natural hair
conditioner.
Dark green vegetables also provide iron and calcium.
Healthy Hair Food No. 3: Beans
Beans, beans, they're good for your ... hair?
Yes, it's true. Legumes like kidney beans and lentils should
be an important part of your hair-care diet. Not only do they provide plentiful
protein to promote hair growth, but ample iron, zinc, and biotin. While rare,
biotin deficiencies can result in brittle hair.
Blatner, who is also a spokeswoman for the American Dietetic
Association, recommends three or more cups of lentils or beans each week.
Healthy Hair Food No. 4: Nuts
Do you go nuts for thick, shiny hair? You should.
Brazil nuts are one of nature's best sources of selenium, an
important mineral for the health of your scalp.
Walnuts contain alpha-linolenic acid, an omega-3 fatty acid
that may help condition your hair. They are also a terrific source of zinc, as
are cashews, pecans, and almonds. A zinc deficiency can lead to hair shedding,
so make sure nuts are a regular on your healthy hair menu.
Healthy Hair Food
No. 5: Poultry
Chickens and turkeys may have feathers, but the high-quality
protein they provide will help give you the healthy hair you crave.
"Without adequate protein or with low-quality protein,
one can experience weak brittle hair, while a profound protein deficiency can
result in loss of hair color," Giancoli tells WebMD.
Poultry also provides iron with a high degree of
bioavailability, meaning your body can easily reap its benefits.
Healthy Hair Food
No. 6: Eggs
When it comes to healthy hair, it doesn't matter whether you
like your eggs scrambled, fried, or over easy. However they're served up, eggs
are one of the best protein sources you can find.
They also contain biotin and vitamin B-12, which are
important beauty nutrients.
Healthy Hair Food
No. 7: Whole Grains
Sink your teeth into hearty whole grains, including
whole-wheat bread and fortified whole-grain breakfast cereals, for a
hair-healthy dose of zinc, iron, and B vitamins.
A whole-grain snack can also be a great go-to food when your
energy is zapped halfway through the afternoon, and you've still got hours to
go before dinner.
Healthy Hair Food
No. 8: Oysters
Oysters may be better known for their reputation as an
aphrodisiac, but they can also lead to healthy hair -- and who doesn't love
that?
The key to their love and hair-boosting abilities is zinc --
a powerful antioxidant.
If oysters don't make a regular appearance on your dinner
plate, don't despair. In addition to getting it from whole grains and nuts, you
can also get zinc from beef and lamb.
Healthy Hair Food No. 9: Low-Fat Dairy Products
Low-fat dairy products like skim milk and yogurt are great
sources of calcium, an important mineral for hair growth. They also contain
whey and casein, two high-quality protein sources.
For some healthy hair foods "to-go," try throwing
a yogurt or cottage cheese cup in your bag when you head out in the morning to
snack on later in the day. You can even boost their hair benefits by stirring
in a couple of tablespoons of ground flaxseeds or walnuts for omega-3 fatty
acids and zinc.
Healthy Hair Food
No. 10: Carrots
Carrots are an excellent source of vitamin A, which promotes
a healthy scalp along with good vision.
Since a healthy scalp is essential for a shiny,
well-conditioned head of hair, you'd be wise to include carrots
in your diet as
snacks or toppings on your salad.
Emotional Eating
So the past two weeks have been
absolutely awful for me. Everything from family to job and school things had
gone wrong for me. I stayed at my Nana’s house for a couple days to cool off and
as much as I love my Nana, I swear she has every one of my favorite food
cravings at her house. As I hid in my guest room eating my 3rd ice
cream cone; I caught a glimpse of myself in the mirror. I saw nothing, but a
really depressed and upset person. It was then that I realized that I am an emotional eater. As unfortunate as this is, I was
bound and determined to stop myself. Realizing that I was an emotional eater
only upset me more, but it was a different kind of upset. I was freak’n pissed
at myself! All of the hard work I have been doing had gone down the drain
because I was so upset that I decided to turn towards food for comfort. I threw
away my ice cream and started doing Jackknife Crunches. I ended up doing an
entire work out.
After I was done I felt so much
happier with myself than I was after finishing an ice cream cone. Working out
makes me feel so accomplished and proud of myself. Also when Im pissed it helps
me work out my anger. Learning to channel my anger, depression and other
feelings into my work out is definitely a process, but it’s something I’m
working on. I found a photo on Pinterest that helped boost my motivation.
Also here are some facts I got
from WebMD:
How to Tell the
Difference
There are several differences between emotional hunger and
physical hunger, according to the University of Texas Counseling and Mental
Health Center web site:
1. Emotional hunger comes on suddenly; physical hunger
occurs gradually.
2. When you are eating to fill a void that isn't related to
an empty stomach, you crave a specific food, such as pizza or ice cream, and
only that food will meet your need. When you eat because you are actually
hungry, you're open to options.
3. Emotional hunger feels like it needs to be satisfied
instantly with the food you crave; physical hunger can wait.
4. Even when you are full, if you're eating to satisfy an
emotional need, you're more likely to keep eating. When you're eating because
you're hungry, you're more likely to stop when you're full.
5. Emotional eating can leave behind feelings of guilt;
eating when you are physically hungry does not.
Managing Emotional Eating
Here are a few tips
to help you deal with emotional eating:
Recognize emotional eating and learn what triggers this
behavior in you.
Make a list of things to do when you get the urge to eat and
you're not hungry, and carry it with you, according to the Tufts Nutrition web
site. When you feel overwhelmed, you can put off that desire by doing another
enjoyable activity.
Try taking a walk, calling a friend, playing cards, cleaning
your room, doing laundry, or something productive to take your mind off the
craving -- even taking a nap, according to the Tufts Nutrition web site.
When you do get the urge to eat when you're not hungry, find
a comfort food that's healthy instead of junk food. "Comfort foods don't
need to be unhealthy," says Wansink.
For some, leaving comfort foods behind when they're dieting
can be emotionally difficult. Wansink tells WebMD, "The key is moderation,
not elimination." He suggests dividing comfort foods into smaller
portions. For instance, if you have a large bag of chips, divide it into
smaller containers or baggies and the temptation to eat more than one serving
can be avoided.
When it comes to comfort foods that aren't always healthy,
like fattening desserts, Wansink also offers this piece of information:
"Your memory of a food peaks after about four bites, so if you only have
those bites, a week later you'll recall it as just a good experience than if
you polished off the whole thing." So have a few bites of cheesecake, then
call it quits, and you'll get equal the pleasure with lower cost.
Lastly, remember that emotional eating is something that
most people do when they're bored, happy, or sad. It might be a bag of chips or
a steak, but whatever the food choice, learning how to control it and using
moderation are key.

Naan Pizza with Asparagus
Runner's Diet: Naan Pizza With Asparagus
Naan Pizza with Asparagus

Naan Pizza with Asparagus
Asparagus is rich in bone-building vitamin K, immune-boosting vitamin C, and heart-healthy folic acid. Canadian bacon adds big flavor with little damage—an ounce has about one third of the calories of regular bacon and 10 fewer fat grams.
2 9-inch store-bought naan
1 teaspoon extra-virgin olive oil
1/2 cup part-skim ricotta cheese
Salt and ground black pepper to taste
1/4 cup prepared pesto
3 slices Canadian bacon, cut into thin strips
8 asparagus spears (bottom ends snapped off and discarded), cut into 11/2-inch lengths
1/2 cup (or about 2 ounces) grated fontina cheese
Adjust oven rack to lower-middle position and heat oven to 425° F. Place naan on a baking sheet. Mix ricotta and pesto and dollop onto breads.
Toss asparagus with oil and a light sprinkling of salt and pepper. Evenly distribute spears, along with Canadian bacon, over naan.
Bake until breads are warm throughout and asparagus is bright green, about 10 minutes.
Remove from oven; divide the fontina equally and top each naan with a portion of the cheese. Return them to oven and continue to bake until breads are crisp and cheese has melted, about five minutes longer.
Cut each pizza into quarters, serving each person two slices. Serves four.

Sweet Motivation
So I finally feel back to me, thanks to my good friend Kristie. For the past two weeks I have fell in too a serious slump because of this sun burn. I was unable to work out and a couple days ago my friend Kristie took me to a yoga class. It had to be the best yoga class I have ever taken. I highly recommend people try Chris Acosta's yoga class at St. Petersburg Yoga. Thanks to the both of them, it inspired me to keep going. I have alot of trouble since I stopped working out because getting back into; I just became super lazy and was making up every excuse possable. Tonight I turned on my favorite song and did Lauren Conrads Circuit work out and got right back into it.
If you are feeling bumbed out about something that has happened and you feel your having a hard time getting back into your work out. Talk to your friends or family. They are the greatest motivation. These are people that truely care for you and want to see you succeed and be happy.
Hope all is well.

Sun Burn From Hell
Hey everyone! I'm sorry for not posting recently, but I have been in bed for about a week...
Recently I got a job at a spa that also has tanning beds. One of the perks of this job is that you get to do all of the services for free. Well on my first day there my manager wanted me to try out a service call a "Cocktail"; which is hydration, tanning bed, and then mystic tanning. So after the hydration i jumped into the tanning bed for 12 minutes. Never again, will i get in there that long!
That night i felt really uncomfortable. I stood up and lifted my pant let up. My friend Caley yelled "omg Phoenix, your so burnt!!". I was purple! Anyways, I was putting lotion on it and thought it would go away.
Thursday rolled around, i jumped in the shower to get ready for school and as i got out my skin was screaming! It literally felt like thousands of needles were just hitting my skin non stop. It got to the point to me shaking, rocking back and forth, and i just over all could not function. My mom took me to the hospital and I was told I wasn't aloud to sweat until this healed up. So because I'm on a routine of working out, i naturally started getting worried. It Saturday and I have still yet to be able to work out.... I'm going stir crazy. I hating sitting on my butt all day long.
Anyways... that's why i haven't been working out but Starting Monday I should be able to start working out and believe me, I am going to go running for a while just because i can lol. Hope everyone is doing well...

5lbs, Bridesmaids and Photo Shoots
Hello my beautiful friends I hope all is well. It is 10:02pm
on Thursday and I just lied down to go to sleep, and then remembered I haven’t
written in a couple days. So I just I will just tell you about what an amazing
day I had.
This morning I got up, did my morning workout and ate my
breakfast. Once I got to school I did my makeup then walked to Starbucks for my
Skinny Vanilla Latte. About 35 minutes in to school one of the “Masters”
educators came in to my classroom and asked if anyone wanted to be a model for
the Masters Graduation photo shoot. Seeing as how my roots were about an inch
along and I had about 3 different colors in my hair; I raised my had an shouted
“ME!!”. I was so excited! The student I was going to be working with
wanted to make my hair a dark purple color and do a little bit of cutting. I
was all about it. I love getting my hair played with. As I sat in his chair from 9:45am to 3pm I
snacked on things like yogurt and fruit because I wasn’t going to be getting a
real lunch but I wanted something healthy. Mind you, the only thing they had to
snack on in the class was donuts, bagels, cream cheese and orange juice. Can I
tell you how much I hated life watching everyone eat that crap….ugh.
Anyways, after the very long process of getting my hair
done, my very talented friend Felix did my makeup “pinup style”. We went into
the next room over to get our photos done and I cannot explain to you how
fucking nervous I was. I was literally stand in a room full of people and yes I
may go to school with them, but being a big girl has made me have serious stage
fright… As Brian pointed the camera at me he tried to get me to relax, but I
was just so nervous that he kept making me laugh. Then he said the thing that
made me so happy and also made me feel a WHOLE lot more comfortable; “Phoenix,
did you lose wait?” He made me relax and have such a soft smile because I
thought it was so cool that he noticed. In fact multiple people have been
noticing since we all got back from break. I am very proud to tell you that
since I have started the workout routine a week ago I have already lost 5
pounds.
I weighed myself this past Tuesday and I was so excited when
I looked on the scale and it said I lost 5 pounds. That same day I had received
an email from my gorgeous cousin that is getting married. She sent me the
pictures of all the things I was going to need as a brides maid. The dress she
picked out is beautiful. Its definitely not one of thoughs awful fluffy
bridesmaids dress that look terrible on anyone. The dress is very low cut in
the back and all I kept thinking to myself was “thank you lord I was working on
losing weight” because I’m sorry, but back fat is not cute and not everyone
likes to talk about it, but it is damn sure there. So that kind of gave me the
little boost to keep on going.
Well I hope everyone is doing great with their goals. No
matter what they are, if you are having trouble with them just keep tell yourself,
you are an amazing beautiful person who deserves to feel good about yourself
and be healthy. Remember you can do it and if you have any questions,
suggestions or comments I would be happy to answer. Have an amazing night <3

Rao's Famous Lemon Chicken (Pollo al Limone) on the Food Network
Yesterday, when I was at my bestfriend Caleys house we were watching the Barefoot Contessa and she visited a restaurant that did an awesome Lemon Chicken recipe. I decided to make it for dinner. Please be warned... lemons are a pain in the ass to get 2 cups of lemon juice from unless you have a juicer (they will also burn you if you have a cut...) Anyways, if you feel up to the challenge its an amazing dish. For a side I cooked few asparagus and drizzled some balsamic vinigerette + a dash of spindle cheese. Let me know how it works for you :) Have fun!
Rao's Famous Lemon Chicken (Pollo al Limone) on the Food Network
- Total Time:
- 1 hr 0 min
- Prep

- Inactive
- 15 min
- Cook
- 30 min
- Yield:
- 6 servings
- Level:
- Easy
Ingredients
- 2 2 1/2-to-3-pound broiling chickens, halved
- 1/4 cup chopped Italian parsley
- Lemon Sauce (recipe follows)
Directions
To attain maximum heat, preheat broiler for at least 15 minutes before using.
Broil chicken halves, turning once, for about 30 minutes or until skin is golden-brown and juices run clear when bird is pierced with a fork.
Remove chicken from broiler, leaving broiler on. Using a very sharp knife, cut each half into about 6 pieces (leg, thigh, wing, 3 small breast pieces).
Place chicken on a baking sheet with sides, of a size that can fit into the broiler. Pour Lemon Sauce over the chicken and toss to coat well. If necessary, divide sauce in half and do this in two batches.
Return to broiler and broil for 3 minutes. Turn each piece and broil for an additional minute.
Remove from broiler and portion each chicken into each of 6 warm serving plates.
Pour sauce into a heavy saucepan. Stir in parsley and place over high heat for 1 minute. Pour an equal amount of sauce over each chicken and serve with lots of crusty bread to absorb the sauce.
This recipe was provided by a chef, restaurant or culinary professional and may have been scaled down from a bulk recipe. The Food Network Kitchens chefs have not tested this recipe, in the proportions indicated, and therefore, we cannot make any representation as to the results.
- Lemon Sauce
- 2 cups fresh lemon juice
- 1 cup olive oil
- 1 tablespoon red wine vinegar
- 1 1/2 teaspoons minced garlic
- 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
- Salt and pepper to taste
Whisk together juice, oil, vinegar, garlic, oregano, and salt and pepper. Cover and refrigerate until ready to use. Whisk or shake vigorously before using. Yield: 6 servings.
Hectic
Good morning everyone! Sorry for the absence; it’s been a
bit crazy here… Anyways, I hope everyone
is doing well. Starting last Saturday I was having trouble keeping up with my
work outs because I go to school Thursday through Saturday till 8pm. I don’t
know about you but when I'm done standing on my feet for 10 hours, 3 days straight
all I want to do is flop down in my bed and crash. My mind is not on cooking
anything healthy or working out after I get home.
So far this Tuesday
morning I am doing well. I got up and took my dog for a walk then made my
breakfast omelet and now I’m about to do my scheduled mornings work out of 50
crunches and 60 second planks. Later on I am going to do some alternate jogging
and walking. Last time I did alternate 60- 90 seconds of jogging and walking
for 35 minutes; now I’m going to try for 45 minutes. Keep your fingers crossed
I can do it <3
I have to say, since I have started working out and eating
sooooo much better; I have noticed a HUGE change already. I can see it in my face
and I over all feel better. It’s amazing to me what small changes can really do
for your body. I’m not saying it’s going to only take a week for you to be a
size 2, but it will definitely make a big difference in the way you feel and
hopefully that will continue to motivate you <3
Breakfast Omelet:
3 Egg whites, chopped tomatoes, a little bit of shredded
parmesan cheese and Italian seasoning,
Snack/ Treat:
Starbucks Tall Skinny Vanilla Latte
Lunch: (I will have this around 12ish)
Whole-grain pita
filled with chicken, arugula, sliced tomato a teaspoon of crumbled feta and a
drizzle of olive oil; serve with a side of grapes

Suspended
Today started out like a normal day. I got up, did my morning work out, had my breakfast smoothie and headed off to school. I got to school and realized I didn't have my Universal Theory books. My teacher came up to me and asked me to leave for the day because I was irresponsible. It sucked, but it was true.
Anyways, I got to hang out with my Nana today and it's been a blast. I love her so much. She has supported me through everything. We went to Target and got a couple things. We got home and had a good snack of strawberries. While we were at Target she got me a Grande Skinny Vanilla Latte. At first I was a little reluctant, but it actually is such a bad treat.
I personally love coffee!! I can't go a morning with out it. I usually have at least 4 cups in the morning with sugar and cream or black. Recently, since I have started drinking only one cup in the morning and trying to get use to that is extremely hard. Today though I treated myself to a Grande Skinny Vanilla latte. I have completely cut out sugar, but I have cut them back alot. I dont do more that 4 grams of sugar. The Grande Skinny Vanilla Latte has 10 grams; so it's deffinetly a treat. I will post the health facts at the bottum.
Hope your work outs are you going well!

Winded
Hey everyone! So I just got don’t eating dinner, its 7:55pm.
I know it isn’t 6pm like it’s supposed to be, but as long as I don’t go to bed
for about 2-3 hours it should be okay…
I had kind of a weird day. My mom woke me up early in the morning
like I asked her to, but I fell right back asleep. So I didn’t get to go to
school and makeup some hours unfortunately. Anyways, I woke up around 11am and
that just pissed me off because that screwed up not only my eating schedule,
but my work out schedule as well. Never the less, I got up and did my morning
workout routine of 50 crunches + 60 second planking. I think the crunches are getting easier. I
know it’s only my third day doing this, but I think because I’m doing them
morning and night my body is starting to get use to them. I can feel my back
lifting up hirer and hirer every time I do them. The planking, not so much; I have had to do
them in 15 second increments because for some reason it’s just too hard to hold
myself up. I’m still trying though; hopefully it will get easier as well.
It was not a very protective day. Since I was not going to
school I kind of just hung out all day. Did a little bit of blog reading,
fiddled around on Facebook; all while lying in bed lol. I started to get a migraine
though from my computer. So I turned off my light, set a candle, put on
Breakfast at Tiffany’s and tried to relax while I listen to Audrey Hepburn. I
fell asleep with my cat, Ophelia snuggled up next to me and woke-up around 5pm
to a barking dog. That would be Nikita; as much as I love my mom’s dog she is a
bit obnoxious. My mom came into check on
me because she’s amazing and offered me some “Goodies”, I don’t know if you
know what that, is but it’s basically Aspirin that you take when you have a really
bad migraine. I can’t stand it because it’s in a powder form. You’re supposed
to put it in the middle of your tongue and drink it down with some water, but
if you accidentally inhale your completely screwed lol because your choking to
death. It’s miserable; instead I got up and took some generic Excedrin.
About 15- 20 minutes later I felt a little better so I
decided to go ahead with my work out for the day. I got my phone and turned on
my music and left. My workout consisted of alternating 60- 90 seconds of
walking and jogging for 30-35 minutes. I am so proud of myself for pushing
myself. Usually, when I say I am going to work out or start eating better, I
makeup a crap ton of excuses and never end up following through. Even though
it’s only been three days, it’s still a struggle. The fact that I have been
able to tell myself to get my ass up and work out because I AM WORTH IT (SO ARE
YOU) is a HUGEEEEEE accomplishment for me. I’ve gotten a lot of support from my
friends and family. So that has been a great help.
After I got done working out I came home, had dinner and
here I am now. This whole process so far has already helped me feel better
about myself. I still have my insecurities just like everyone else, but I
promise if you realize that you and your general health are worth it; you will
start to feel amazing and so proud of yourself for pushing yourself to do
things you didn’t think you could do.
Remember to keep your head up and do this for you and no one else. You
are a beautiful person and you deserve to be happy <3
